What is Super Cruise?

Super Cruise® from Chevrolet is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads. It's not self-driving—it's a sophisticated co-pilot designed to reduce fatigue on long highway drives. By combining precise LiDAR mapping, real-time cameras, sensors, GPS, and a driver attention system, Super Cruise allows for hands-free steering, acceleration, and braking on over 400,000 miles of pre-mapped highways across North America. Visit Mills Chevrolet in Davenport to experience how it transforms your drive.

How It Works

Super Cruise uses an intelligent fusion of technologies. Centimeter-accurate GPS and detailed LiDAR maps know the road ahead. Real-time cameras and sensors monitor lane markings and traffic. The key differentiator is the Driver Attention System—a steering-column camera that ensures your eyes remain on the road. When all conditions are met on a compatible highway, the steering wheel light bar turns green, signaling you can safely remove your hands. The system handles steering and works with Adaptive Cruise Control to manage speed and following distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chevrolet Super Cruise?

Super Cruise is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology from GM, available on compatible, pre-mapped highways. It allows hands-free steering, acceleration, and braking while requiring the driver to remain attentive.

Is Super Cruise self-driving?

No. It is a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS). The driver must always remain alert, eyes on the road, and ready to take control. It assists but does not replace the driver.

On what roads does Super Cruise work?

It operates on over 400,000 miles of compatible, divided highways in the U.S. and Canada that have been pre-mapped with LiDAR. It will not engage on city streets, rural roads, or unmapped highways.

How does Super Cruise monitor the driver?

A driver-facing infrared camera on the steering column constantly monitors your eye position. If inattention is detected, it issues alerts and will disengage if you don't respond, potentially bringing the vehicle to a safe stop.

Can I use Super Cruise while towing?

Yes! With Super Cruise with Trailering on properly equipped vehicles like the Silverado or Tahoe, the system adjusts for your trailer, providing hands-free driving even when towing—a feature unmatched by competitors.

Which Chevrolet models offer Super Cruise?

Super Cruise is available on models like the Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Traverse, Equinox, and Blazer. Availability varies by trim and year. Visit Mills Chevrolet to explore our Super Cruise inventory.

Does Super Cruise require a subscription?

Yes. It requires an active OnStar service plan for connectivity and map updates. New vehicles typically include a 3-year trial. After that, a paid subscription is required to maintain hands-free functionality.
