Catchy messages, witty commercials and memorable slogans are all good examples of successful advertising. Then again, pushing a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic out of an airplane works too. That's right. The recently launched Chevy "Let's Do This" marketing campaign has produced outrageous video clips of the new Sonic doing such things as skydiving and bungee jumping. Why go to such extreme measures for advertising? Well, Chevrolet is asking, "Why not?" The new campaign is designed to bring attention to the fact that the Sonic is edgy and daring and that the Chevrolet brand is far from mundane. By quite literally pushing the new model into crazy situations, the automaker hopes to capture the interest of an 18- to 30-year old demographic.
While the shocking Chevy Sonic ads are certainly intriguing, Mills Chevrolet is even more impressed by the interactive game that runs alongside. The "Let's Do This" game dares participants to complete tasks that are just about as unconventional as a bungee jumping vehicle. To play, bold Chevy fans must upload images and share videos of themselves completing tasks such as donating blood in a vampire costume and working out in a grocery store. Participants then become eligible to win a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic.
On top of the "Let's Do This" ads and dare game, Chevrolet has also partnered with Pandora and will take advantage of a new advertising opportunity. The internet radio company will allow users to access playlists tailored specifically to the theme of the unique Chevy campaign. Also, when a Chevrolet targeted Pandora user creates a custom radio station on their smart phone, the automaker will get exclusive access for advertising to that user.
