This is no time for a vacation, Chevrolet's all new Equinox FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) is going on active duty in the Aloha State. The US Navy has adopted the Equinox FCEV, disguised in military camouflage, of course at the Navy's Pearl Harbor facility on the island of Oahu. The Pacific islands have been a hotbed for hydrogen power development and the Equinox FCEV will be part of the Navy's Hawaii Hydrogen Initiative.

The Navy's Hawaii Hydrogen Initiative was announced on December 8th, 2010, and hopes to make a hydrogen fueling infrastructure a reality in Hawaii by 2015. General Motors, along with 11 other partner companies, have pushed for the continued development of hydrogen fuel and fueling infrastructure. They intend to install up to 25 hydrogen stations on Oahu, since the island houses the largest percentage of Hawaii's residents (even though it is only 597 square miles).

Hawaii imports 90 percent of its gas, so it has some of the highest gas prices in the nation. For that fact alone, there may be no better location to relieve fueling expenses and test out alternative means of power.
